A cone penetration test (CPT) approach to cable plough performance prediction based upon centrifuge model testing

چکیده

Cable ploughing is an important technique for burying and protecting offshore cables. The ability to predict the required tow force plough performance essential allow vessel selection project programming. Existing models require calibration against full-scale field testing determine empirical parameters, a requirement that may hinder their use. In this study factors controlling resistance were investigated using series of dry saturated 1/50th scale model cable tests in sand geotechnical centrifuge at 50g range target trench depths, relative densities, velocities. An improved predicting separates out key components allows prediction without use field-derived coefficients presented. It demonstrated parameters can be easily determined from situ cone penetration (CPTs), allowing it used where site investigation techniques more limited compared onshore locations. validated tests, demonstrating correctly both static (dry) rate effect (saturated) forces.

Using Miniature Cone Penetration Test (Mini-CPT) to determine engineering properties of sandy soils

In-situ testing techniques have proven to be successful in improving the speed and reliability of geotechnical investigations. One of the most common in-situ methods in engineering geology and site investigation is Cone Penetration Test (CPT), which is mainly used for characterization of soils, as it is a robust, simple, fast, reliable and economic test that can provide continuous soundings of ...

Instruments and Methods Cone penetration testing (CPT) in Antarctic firn: an introduction to interpretation

Commercial cone penetration testing (CPT) equipment was adapted to allow penetrative testing in hard polar firn to depths of 10m. The apparatus is hydraulically driven, rate-controllable and able to penetrate firn with a resistance of 10MPa. It can be mounted on many types of typical polar vehicles, requiring connection to only hydraulics and 12V electricity. Data recorded include both cone tip...

NCHRP Synthesis 368 – Cone Penetration Testing

Systematic, well-designed research provides the most effective approach to the solution of many problems facing highway administrators and engineers. Often, highway problems are of local interest and can best be studied by highway departments individually or in cooperation with their state universities and others. However, the accelerating growth of highway transportation develops increasingly ...
